- Two WINDFARMS-2017 international meetings took place during the summer of 2017:
- Windfarms-2017 International Conference at Comillas, Madrid, Spain (May 31-June 2, 2017), focussing on wind farm control and integration in the electricity grid, market behavior and design, economics of investment, optimal farm configuration, etc. (flyer).
- Windfarms-2017 Minisymposium during Wind Energy Science Conference (WESC) at Danish Technical University (June 26-29, 2017), focussing on wind-power plants: interaction, control and interactions. Mini symposium M4. The WINDFARMS2017 mini symposium had 14 invited speakers and a poster session.
- Offshore Wind Innovation Center formed (OWIC): The new Center joins researchers from five Maryland-based Universities (UMCP, JHU, UMBC, MSU and UMES) in order to increase fundamental scientific-engineering-economic knowledge and innovation, and to enable a successful national offshore wind industry in the United States.
- 2017 Summer Research experiences program: WINDINSPIRE International Research Opportunities For Undergraduates in Renewable Energy In Europe (Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Norway) is in progress. (past announcement)
- Massachusetts Bill Creates 1600MW Offshore Wind Procurement. This is the first legislation of its kind that includes a specific carve out for offshore wind at a scale necessary to create a viable market in the United States. The bill requires big utilities to buy up to 1,600 megawatts of off-shore wind energy. This bill marks the start of the US Pipeline.

- Charles Meneveau awarded honorary doctorate by WINDINSPIRE international partner institution Danish Technical University (April 28, 2016).
- 2nd WINDINSPIRE-associated international Summer workshop 2015: “WindFarms 2015: Large wind-power plants: interaction, control and integration” was held in Leuven, Belgium on July 8-10, 2015. Thanks to all participants for the excellent presentations that made the event a big success. Thanks also to Prof. Johan Meyers and his staff at KU Leuven for the hard work and excellent outcome of this international meeting.
- Various Summer 2015 international research student experiences at EPFL, KU Leuven and Comillas have been completed.
- International partner’s research highlighted: WINDINSPIRE international partner Prof. Fernando Porte-Agel and his postdoc Mahdi Akbar at EPFL have had their recent paper on modeling wind farm effects on weather highlighted in Physics Today. These results are of great interest in the context of WINDINSPIRE ongoing research.
